PEKIN, Ill – Clearing the roads of snow in Pekin might be going a bit better than one official thought they would.
“We, actually, are there (in the residential areas),” said Brett Olson, Operations Supervisor, City of Pekin. “We got into it, probably, late [Wednesday] night or early [Thursday] morning.”
Olson says after initially thinking crews would not be able to get residential streets plowed until Friday, they’re already being worked on. But, Olson says, it’s not easy.
“There’s a lot of snow on the residential streets, and now it’s getting cold,” said Olson.
The “Snow Fighters” in Peoria have received a lot of praise in the last day or so trying to clear out local streets. So, why not let City of Pekin Operations Supervisor Brett Olson have a chance to praise his crews, too?
“My guys have been working tirelessly,” said Olson. “They are awesome. They are the best crew out there. I know everybody likes to say that. But, I appreciate them. I know a lot of the residents do appreciate them.”
Olson’s crews have been working in somewhat staggered 16-hour shifts, so that the crews overlap during the night hours, in order to clear more roads, especially when people aren’t on them.
