NASHVILLE, Tenn. – It didn’t take long for a jury in Tennessee to find a Morton, Illinois man guilty of murder for the 2018 Waffle House shooting.
Our news partner 25 News through their sister station WSMV-TV, reports a jury took just a couple hours to find Travis Reinking guilty of sixteen First-Degree Murder-related charges.
Reinking walked into a Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee — near Nashville — and opened fire, killing four people. He was tackled and subdued while he was reloading his gun.
Prosecutors had said Reinking knew exactly what he was doing, while the defense claimed, in essence, he didn’t — claiming that God was summoning him to commit the shooting.
Because of an insanity defense, jurors could could still recommend Reinking could be committed to a mental institution. Otherwise, he faces a minimum 51 years in prison.
Reinking’s mother told WSMV her son was an otherwise normal child growing up.
