NASHVILLE, TN – A Morton native, convicted of killing four people in a Nashville Waffle House, is sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Travis Reinking, 33, Saturday faced the same jury that had convicted him the day before of 16 counts, including four counts of first-degree murder.
News partner 25 News sister station WSMV reports the jury had the option of giving Reinking the chance for parole after serving 51 years in prison.
Reinking had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity for firing a rifle in a Nashville Waffle House April 22, 2018, killing four people. A man identified as James Shaw Jr. tackled Reinking as he was reloading his rifle, likely preventing more people from being killed.
Punishment handed down Saturday was for the four first-degree murder convictions. Sentencing for the other convictions will be handled by the court at a later date.
Saturday’s decision came after the jury heard hours of emotional impact statements by family members of the victims.
