PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria authorities are investigation what made a large dump truck run through a South Peoria bar.
Peoria firefighters responded to 4201 SW Adams at 3:30 p.m. Saturday to find a large truck truck that had run through a corner of the building resulting in significant damage.
The Peoria Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team was called to the scene because of the potential for the collapse of the building and possible entrapment.
Battalion Chief Steve Rada said there were no injuries. Rada told news partner 25 News the driver of the truck was “a little bit shook up” but did not require medical attention.
The bar had just opened for the day so the only person inside was the bartender, who was not injured, according to Rada.
A structural engineer was called to the scene by the City to determine the stability of the building.
Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours until the dump truck could be removed from the building with the Technical Rescue Team on standby in case the building collapsed.
Southwest Adams Street was closed to traffic for several hours, but reopened to one lane when safe to do so.
