WASHINGTON, Ill. – Prosecutors in Tazewell County are laying out their case against a Washington man charged with the murder of his three month old son.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by our news partner 25 News, young Cree Dax Lane Van Winsen had been in the hospital in the days prior to his death after not being able to hold down food.
The boy’s father Zachary told authorities he had been bottle feeding the child at home after the first hospitalization, when he looked pale, later unresponsive, and called an ambulance.
The boy was later found to have died in late January after what a CT scan determined to be “non-accidental trauma,” including hemorrhaging in the retinas.
Zachary Van Winsen is jailed on charges of First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery to a child.
Bond has been set at $2.5 million, and a hearing will be held February 24th.
