PEORIA, Ill. — In the wake of a huge surge of the Omicron variant, Reditus Labs in Pekin has processed about 446,000 COVID-19 tests in the past 46 days.
“The bottom line is that I’ve got a great staff, great employees, that work day and night. They’ve probably worked an average of four nights a week in the past month, probably,” Reditus Labs CEO Dr. Aaron Rossi said.
With the emergence of the Omicron variant, there’s been a run on home tests and rapid COVID-19 tests.
The White House has made the tests available to every household nationwide, but there’s an issue with their accuracy, compared to PCR tests processed by Reditus.
“It’s hard to have an over-the-counter rapid test, that’s been manufactured several months ago, keep up with a rapidly mutating virus,” Rossi told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show.”
Rossi expects the coronavirus will keep mutating. But, with more mutations, he said, it is also expected to lose it’s strength.
To date, Reditus Labs has done over four million COVID-19 tests since the beginning of the pandemic.
