PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police now say the parents of an eight-year-old boy have been arrested in connection to the boy’s death.
Police say following questioning, Brandon Walker, 40, and Stephanie Jones, 35, were arrested on charges of Endangering the Life or Health of a Child Causing Death.
Police went to a home near Gale and Sheridan around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday on a report of an unresponsive boy.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Navin Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital not long after, and an autopsy indicated the cause of death of physical abuse and neglect.
Harwood told 25 News it was one of the worst cases of abuse he’s seen.
Walker and Jones are jailed pending court appearances.
This is the city’s sixth homicide this year.

PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say a death investigation is now underway following the discovery of an 8-year-old child, found unresponsive and not breathing.
Officers first got the call around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Someone at a home on North Gale Avenue just off Sheridan Road in Central Peoria said the child was in the house and not breathing.
Police and EMT’s arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but the child was later pronounced dead at OSF after suffering unknown critical injuries.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Navine Jones’ death is being ruled a homicide due to neglect, and it’s one of the worst cases of abuse he’s seen.
Peoria Police Criminal Investigations’ unit is now reportedly investigating.
