PEORIA, Ill. — The sudden closure of one college in Lincoln, Illinois is sending ripple affects across the entire Central Illinois region.
State lawmakers, families and local leaders alike are all reacting with shock and some sadness at the announced — and very sudden — closure of Lincoln College.
Abraham Lincoln’s namesake college is closing effective May 13, 2022 at the end of the spring semester.
Lincoln College issued the announcement on Facebook Wednesday.
They say the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically impacted recruitment and fund raising efforts, sporting events and all campus life activities.
The school was also crippled by a cyber attack late last year.
The Mayor of Lincoln issued a statement on Facebook, saying he was saddened by the news and that for more than 150 years, Lincoln College, “has been a pillar of our community and the education industry.”
