PEKIN, Ill. — About a dozen people held a vigil Monday evening in Pekin to remember three lives lost way too young.
The group said they spread the word through social media and met up to show their support at the site where a 3-year-old boy was killed last week in Pekin.
3-year-old Damien Legassick died Thursday on Route 29 in Pekin after he was hit by a semi truck. They also mourned the life of 8-year-old Navin Jones. Jones died in Peoria Tuesday, from abuse due to neglect.
The vigil also focused on 2-year-old Ryle Embree. He died recently in a UTV crash in Tremont.
Although the organizers say they did not know any of these boys, they wanted to make sure they were remembered.
“I didn’t know any of them personally, but I just feel compelled, my heart goes out for all of them, everyone involved all the families. I couldn’t imagine being in any of their situations right now,” Organizer Tiffiany Shore told 25 News.
Shore hopes people become more aware of what’s going on around them after these recent tragedies.
Organizers say they plan to come back next week and hope to spread the word further through social media.
