PEORIA, Ill. – This time, the feds were involved.
Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria says his officers got help from U.S. Marshals and the Peoria County Sheriffs Department in carrying out the latest special detail in his Anti-Violence initiative Thursday.
Police say 21 arrests were made and 80 traffic stops were conducted. Among the most serious arrests was that of Daevon Berry, 31, who was wanted on multiple charges and at one point tried to get away from police on a dirt bike.
Mario Davis, 37, was arrested late in the night on gun, drug, and police warrants, among other charges. Drugs and cash were found in a car he was believed to be in.
Police say a “large” number of illegal drugs, and a “substantial” amount of cash, all were seized.
And, a car that that had fled police earlier in the day was found in Peoria Heights, with an investigation there continuing.
“These Directed Patrols are resulting in numerous arrests. While progress is being made, there’s still more work to be done. As I have stated before, these Directed Patrols will continue until we rid our streets of violent offenders. The citizens of Peoria deserve a safe community and we will continue to do our best to provide them with that.” — Chief Eric Echevarria, in a news release
