PEORIA, Ill. — You’ve probably seen the light show on the Murray Baker Bridge while driving around downtown Peoria or East Peoria at night.
Maybe you’ve wondered what the colors signify, or who’s in charge of the lights?
Peoria Public Works coordinates the display from their offices on Dries Lane by computer.
There are holidays and specific dates reserved, but individuals and non-profits can make a donation to have the Murray Baker lit up just for them.
How does it work?
“They would go to our website, peoriagov.org, go to the Public Works section, and there’s a spot on there to light the Murray Baker Bridge. And, it’s a fee of $200 a night if you’re an individual, but if you’re a non-profit, it’s $150 a night,” said Peoria Communications Specialist Stacy Peterson.
Peterson tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, the Murray Baker Bridge will be lit up orange through Friday night for National Work Zone Awareness Week.
“The Murray Baker is joining several other landmarks like the I-74 Bridge, three locations in Rockford, Rock Island, to signify being safe in work zones,” Peterson said.
When it’s not lit up for something specific, the Murray Baker Bridge’s standard color display is blue, yellow and green…which are the colors of the City of Peoria’s logo.
