SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Peoria and Tazewell Counties are now among eight in Illinois which are now listed as in the “high community spread” category of COVID-19.
That’s as the Illinois Department of Public Health reports 40,000 new cases of COVID statewide with 56 additional deaths in the last week.
Interim Public Health Director Doctor Amaal Tokars says if you get it, don’t waste time getting treated for it.
“If you find that you’re positive, call your provider immediately to see which therapeutic is right for you,” said Tokars. “Don’t wait to feel sick. When people wait to feel quite sick, it’s not nearly as efficacious.”
Tokars says counties with high community spread are urged — not required — to wear a mask indoors, especially if you have an underlying condition or plan to be around a lot of people.
Woodford County and 38 others are at a medium community spread level.
