PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria and Tazewell Counties have both been listed by the State as being in a high community spread of COVID-19 once again, with cases and hospitalizations starting to increase along with it.
Does that mean that more stringent protocols are going to have to be put back in to place at businesses and other locales, as some are already doing?
Doctor Doug Kasper with the University of Illinois College of Medicine says, not really.
“I think we’re developing into a pattern where we’re going to have rise and fall of COVID cases over some sort of calendar period,” said Kasper. “In this case, it was a period of months. But, I’d expect that would start to stretch out over time.”
Kasper tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” what will determine that, ultimately, is what he calls the “buy-in” on vaccinations — especially for those who are at high risk.
“What really determines that is going to be the buy-in on continued vaccinations, and particularly for people who are at very high risk,” said Kasper. “We’re not seeing that risk is uniform anymore — meaning that risk is largely determined by underlying conditions and by where you are in vaccination status.”
