PEORIA, Ill. — There is still plenty of work to go at the site of the stricken BioUrja Renewables plant in Peoria.
Interim Peoria Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger released an update on the situation Thursday morning.
He says crews with Alpine Demolition Services were planning on Thursday to bring down the grain bin everyone can see leaning over the most. Three other, taller bins will be brought down over the next several days.
Sollberger says the last grain bin to be demolished will be the one which originally exploded over two weeks ago, triggering a local and regional crisis response.
Crews had hoped to move a little more quickly on this project this week, but it’s likely the recent rain has slowed them down.
Sollberger says local fire crews will remain on scene, monitoring the safety and progress of the work.
