PEORIA, Ill. — A local woman is arrested and charged and now local authorities are investigating the city’s 11th homicide of the year after another woman was found dead inside a home just before sunrise Saturday.
According to a news release, Police officers found the victim’s body inside a home off South Sterling Avenue and MLK Junior Drive on Peoria’s south side.
The discovery was made shortly after 4:19 a.m.
The adult female victim, identified as 21-year-old Mariah Faith Moss, had reportedly suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Members of PPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Operations and Crime Scene Unite responded to the scene, as per protocol, and initiated a follow up investigation.
It reportedly didn’t take long for officers to develop a prime suspect, 24-year-old Kaitlyn S. Taylor, who was taken in for questioning and then later arrested on a charge of First Degree Murder.
Taylor was last reported to be in residence at the Peoria County Jail.
