PEORIA, Ill. — Over the next two weeks, three major sports tournaments are coming to the Peoria area.
Louisville Slugger Sports Complex is hosting the JP Sports World Series Baseball Tournament and the USSSA Great Lakes National Softball Championship.
But, that’s not all…the PDGA Junior Disc Golf Championships are taking place this weekend on 13 local courses.
“When you host a world event like the Professional Disc Golf Association World Championship, you have visitors not just from across the state of Illinois, the Midwest and the country, but even international players. Having them descend upon the Tri-County area, to take part at some of the best Disc Golf courses, is really remarkable,” said Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau President JD Dalfonso.
These tournaments bring in not only a lot of teams, but spectators too.
“We have so many teams coming from over 80 miles away, so that’s generating hotel tax, but if you’re driving…that’s fuel tax that’s being generated, restaurant tax, that’s even fast-food, sit down restaurants. And, a reminder, when you’re not playing in the tournament, you’re exploring the destinations,” Dalfonso said.
1100 competitors, from 15 countries and almost every state in the U.S., will be here this weekend alone for Disc Golf.
