SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Analysts say the state of Illinois’ job market remains strong despite other economic strains for state residents, including pressure from inflation.
The latest report from the Illinois Department of Employment Security showed the state’s unemployment rate for June was 4.5 percent, down a tenth of a point from 4.6 percent in May.
It is the lowest the figure has been since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, 2020.
The reduced jobless rate comes after another 18,800 jobs were added across the state last month.
According to figures passed down through the U.S. Labor Department, Illinois’ leisure and hospitality industries grew jobs at the highest rates in June, with nearly 10-thousand employees added.
Professional and Business Services, Construction, Education and Health Services industries also saw significant job gains in Illinois.
