PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called to the area of E. Virginia and N. Missouri Avenues, just after 3 a.m. Friday, on reports of smoke inside a residence.
Fire Battalion Chief Lore Baxter said crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the back of the home. The fire was extinguished in less than 30 minutes.
Two occupants got out of the home safely before the fire department arrived. One of them said a smoke detector alerted them to the fire.
An investigator determined the fire was accidental.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
Damages were estimated at $50,000.
