PEORIA, Ill. — The latest group of area military veterans to travel to Washington D.C. for memorial tours returns tonight and this will reportedly be the final Honor Flight of the year.
More than 70 area veterans and their guardians took off for D.C. Tuesday morning from General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.
Peoria Airports Director Gene Olson says it’s been great being able to host the flights again.
“It’s really neat. It was a two year period because of COVID where they didn’t do them at all and then they were able to start them up again this year and that was really nice for us.”
There have been a handful of Honor Flights through this year and according to 25 News, Tuesday’s returning flight will be the last of 2022.
Airport officials say today’s group of veterans is slated to return to Peoria between 9 and 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
