SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — In observation of Fire Prevention Week, Illinois’ State Fire Marshal is urging families to plot out their own escape route.
Fire Marshal Spokesperson J-C Fultz says your escape plan should include two ways out of every room in your house, ensuring all doors and windows open easily.
Fultz also recommends establishing a meeting spot outside of your home so you can do a quick headcount.
“And, practice makes perfect…practice that home fire drill at least twice a year, including guests in your home. Practice during the day, and practice once at night,” Fultz says.
Fultz reminds Illinois residents that any plan should meet the needs of all family members, including the visually and hearing impaired and those with physical disabilities.
