PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called to the area of W. Garden Street and S. Westmoreland Avenue on reports of a car on fire early Thursday evening.
Assistant Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Calhoun said crews arrived just before 5:30 p.m., finding a vehicle in flames, with the fire extending to outside a structure nearby.
Crews extinguished in less than 15 minutes. No one was in the vehicle at the time of the fire and the building appeared to be vacant.
Firefighters searched the building for fire extension inside and found none.
A Fire Investigator determined the cause of the fire was arson.
No injuries were reported.
Damage was estimated at $14,000.
