PEORIA, Ill. — The project to install massive new equipment at the new OSF health Cancer Institute in Peoria is making progress with the arrival of a giant particle accelerator.
The device was seen moving slowly through town on a giant flat-bed trailer hooked to a big rig, traveling much of the distance along Interstate 74 and over the Murray Baker Bridge.
OSF health officials had said earlier they expected to receive delivery of the particle accelerator sometime around 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
A Facebook post shared by local resident Rick Otey showed crews lifting the device from its resting place on the trailer to a site near OSF St. Francis Medical Center around 2:15 p.m.
The large particle accelerator is being installed on the site of the soon to be minted OSF Cancer Institute inside the medical complex.
