WASHINGTON, Ill. — Drivers and residents in Washington will benefit from major infrastructure upgrades along U.S. 24.
18th District Republican Congressman Darin Lahood made the announcement, flanked by Washington Mayor Gary Manier on Friday as a small group of local dignitaries looked on inside Connect Church.
LaHood says the community will benefit from $4 million in federal grant dollars to help fund the project.
Overall, the road upgrades will cost roughly $6 million.
“You can go through the numbers on Nofsinger Road. I think over the last 20 years we’ve had 167 accidents at that intersection and unfortunately, a number of fatalities have ocurred there,” said LaHood.
Mayor Manier also noted it’s an area where the municipality plans to add more homes and businesses.
Manier says he hopes to see the project completed sometime next year.
