EAST PEORIA, Ill. – A disease people may not know they have, but many people may suffer from, is the subject of a seminar open to the public starting Saturday morning at Illinois Central College.
The National Kidney Foundation is holding a “Kidney Health for Life” seminar at ICC’s East Peoria campus beginning at 8:30 a.m.
“Knowledge is power, and I am just grateful to be able to help impart that knowledge to the general public,” said Monica Fox, National Kidney Foundation, to 25 News.
Fox is a survivor of kidney disease herself thanks to a transplant.
The Centers for Disease Control says kidney disease is the ninth leading cause of death in Illinois — and is often linked to diabetes and high blood pressure, and either lifestyle or genetics.
“It’s important to get the word out, so that people can ask their doctor and find out if they have kidney problems,” said Dr. Chris Johnson, OSF HealthCare, to 25 News. “Then they can make those changes with their diet and their lifestyle to prevent it from getting worse.”
