PEORIA, Ill. — National Weather Service forecasters predicted heavy wind gusts up to 50 mph for the Peoria-Pekin metro area through the majority of the daylight hours on Saturday. NWS began issuing alerts about high winds as early as Wednesday this past week.
The latest NWS listed Peoria, Galesburg, Toulon, Lacon, Canton, Rushville, Greenup, Marshall, Newton, Robinson, Oleny and Lawrencevill, all within warned county agencies in Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Fulton, Schuyler, Cumberland, Clark, Jasper, Crawford, Richland, and Lawrence counties.
Sustained wind gusts were expected to remain between 20 and 30 miles per hour until at least 4 p.m.
Forecasters warned that gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and also bring down tree limbs, causing some power outages as a result.
You’re advised to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.
