PEORIA, Ill. – Charley Steiner is back in town.
The ESPN legend and voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers is at his alma mater Bradley University Tuesday for the annual sports-themed symposium named after him — back after a COVID-imposed hiatus.
“This has been a great sense of joy for me,” said Steiner, to WMBD’s Craig Collins, “being involved at Bradley, basically giving me a school in my name…when I first came here in 1967, that was not on the bucket list. But, as things evolved over the course of time, life, and career, here I am, and it’s worked out.”
Steiner tells WMBD’s Craig Collins he’s gone from Bradley to having a great career.
Steiner, the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, tells WMBD’s Craig Collins he didn’t have to work too hard to get a former co-worker to be there, too: former ESPN anchor Bob Ley (LEE).
“When I asked him to come on out, he said ‘yes.’ There was no sell job at all. So, I’m thrilled,” said Steiner
Steiner says Ley, who retired from ESPN, is involved in his own alma mater these days: Seton Hall.
The discussion with Steiner and Ley will cap the day of sports-related panel discussions, ranging from the 50th anniversary of Title IX to sports entrepreneurship.
