LEXINGTON, Ill. — A building has completely collapsed due to a large fire on Illinois State University’s farm in Lexington.
According to the Lexington Fire Department, the farm’s large 1,000 foot long cow barn, visible from Interstate 55, was reported on fire by a McLean County Sheriff’s Office deputy around 12:40 a.m. Friday.
Fire officials say the north half the building appears to have been saved. The south half of the building, which also stores straw, will continue to smolder for some time.
Fire departments on scene Friday morning included Lexington, Towanda, Chenoa , Gridley, Hudson, El Paso, Colfax, Cooksville and Normal Fire Department.
McLean County Sheriff’s deputies, Illinois State University Police, Illinois State Police, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and Cornbelt Energy were also on-scene.
