PEORIA, Ill. – The price of gas is still pretty high, but going in to Thanksgiving, at least it isn’t as high as it was last week.
The weekly gas price update from GasBuddy.com indicates their Peoria-area gas price average sits at $3.95 a gallon — down more than 16 cents from the week before.
AAA, meanwhile, has their Peoria-Pekin metro average at $3.99 a gallon — down almost 16 cents from the same period last week.
GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan calls it “an incredible turnaround,” indicating that ever single state in the union had a decline last week.
“…it’s terrific news as motorists prepare for Thanksgiving travel, with tens of thousands of stations under $3 per gallon, and thousands more to join in the next few weeks, barring a dramatic turnaround,” said De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Everyone will be seeing relief at the pump this week, with even more substantial declines on the way as oil prices plummeted last week to briefly trade under $80 per barrel. It’s not impossible that if oil markets hold here, we could see a national average of $2.99 around Christmas….”
One of the main areas of concern, however, remains the price of diesel fuel. AAA’s Peoria-Pekin metro average for diesel sits at, roughly, $5.31 a gallon, down only about five cents in the past week.
AAA’s Illinois average price for unleaded sits at $4.002 a gallon. Their national average is at $3.662.
