WASHINGTON, Ill. — Residents in Washington can be hopeful that a boil water advisory will be lifted in time for traditional meal prep on Thanksgiving Day.
A large portion of Washington is under a boil order after the city’s water treatment plant began to malfunction Monday morning.
City Administrator Jim Snider tells WMBD News the source of the problem can be traced to a defective chlorine feeder at the plant and that a solution to the problem has been found.
“We have put that in place to make sure it’s regulating (chlorine flow) correctly,” he said.
He says city crews will then test the remedy on Tuesday to ensure its having the desired effect.
Snider says all hopes are that the boil notice will be fully lifted by sometime Wednesday.
Due to chlorine levels dropping outside of regulated limits, residents within the affected area should boil water for consumption until the notice is lifted.
Further updates are being be provided through the Washington City website, social media and e-notify.
