PEKIN, Ill. – A man charged with getting into an accident with an East Peoria squad car which was at the scene of a separate fatal accident has reportedly taken a plea deal in the case. and was sentenced to a year of court supervision.
Tazewell County Circuit Court records indicate Brandes Morris, 53, pleaded guilty last month to charges of violating what’s known as “Scott’s Law,” moving out of the way of an emergency vehicle, and Driving Under the Influence.
Two other offenses including another DUI count were dismissed in exchange for the guilty plea.
The accident happened in late July near the McClugage Bridge.
One of the officers got out of his squad car just in time before Morris’ vehicle hit it.
25 News reports investigators claim Morris admitted to drinking a glass and a half of wine prior to getting behind the wheel.
