TREMONT, Ill. – A state lawmaker representing parts of Tazewell and McLean Counties is retiring, and the search is on for his replacement.
88th District State Representative Keith Sommer submitted his resignation last week.
Tazewell County Republican Party head Jim Rule says it’s important to get someone in place to replace him by the time the lame duck legislative session starting January 4th.
The replacement would only serve for the remainder of the 102nd General Assembly session, and not for the upcoming 103rd.
“It is critical we have someone seated in the 88th district for the Lame Duck session”, said Jim Rule, chairman, Tazewell County Republican Party, in a news release. “It is an active session where the people of this district which includes much of both Tazewell and McLean counties must be represented.”
Tazewell and McLeak County Republicans will accept applications for Sommer’s short-term replacement until they meet December 20th, and will meet to consider them the day after.
