SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – If you don’t believe us, maybe you’ll believe the Illinois State Police.
Given the winter storm now bearing down on us, the State Police is saying if you don’t need to go out and drive in this weather, especially on state highways or interstates, don’t.
“With the wind that blows the snow and creates really conditions for us as well, because you can’t see. It’s blinding white out there,” said Trooper Haylie Polistina, Illinois State Police. “People are sliding all over the roadways. We’re trying to get people out of the ditches, and make sure that everyone is safe. It’s kind of scary to work out there.”
If you do end up driving and get into trouble…
“We ask that you remain in your car where it’s safest with your seatbelt on, call 911, and we’ll try to get you out, said Polistina. “If we can’t get your vehicle out, you’ll have to get it at a later time. But the safest place to be is in your vehicle.”
And, Polistina says it’s also vital for drivers to obey the “Move Over Law” since roads likely will be slick.
