PEORIA, Ill. – Believe it or, not, Peoria International Airport pretty much got out of the winter storm unscathed.
The storm that has now been downgraded to a Wind Chill Warning until Saturday morning caused some cancellations for PIA, but director Gene Olson says it’s otherwise not bad there right now.
“Those are planes that didn’t come in (Thursday) night, so they can’t go out this (Friday) morning,” said Olson. “The rest of the schedule for the rest of the day is showing active and should be on time.”
Olson tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Snow” most of the time, there’s plenty of time inbetween flights at the airport to make sure runways are clear.
“I was watching the runway condition codes, which is kind of an assessment of how clean and clear and the runways are,” said Olson. “We never went below five out of six. The airlines will operate down to three.”
No other problems are expected at PIA.
