PEORIA, Ill. – Last week’s winter storm caused some negative effects to businesses across the Tri-County area.
Several businesses are temporarily closed due to burst pipes from bitter cold temperatures.
They include Pizza Ranch and Obed and Issac’s Brewery in Peoria, and Miss Vickie’s South in Morton.
Miss Vickie’s South owner Vickie Shipman told 25 News that she’s trying to keep a positive attitude.
“At first, you know, you cry because you don’t know what’s going on. And then you just gotta go no,” Shipman said.
Shipman added that it will take about a month to clean up and re-open.
Shule Elementary in East Peoria was also affected by burst pipes.
Superintendent Tony Ingold told 25 News that that a pipe burst in a sprinkler system near the school’s gym. But he said it could have been worse.
“Our system’s are back up and running, which is a good thing. And we were able to minimize any clean up and damage,” Ingold said.
He said repair work is underway and students returning from winter break next week should not be affected.
