PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County Sheriffs Department is warning parents of a potential scam targeting mostly teenagers in the area.
Sheriffs officials are taking to social media, to warn of something they say is extortion, and most victims have been teenage boys.
They say the teens are being blackmailed, with scammers threatening to post images or videos of a suggestive nature posted online, often requesting gift cards using fake accounts.
They say the Secret Service is investigating, and they have tips that help if you think you or someone you know is targeted.
