SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The tax filing season gets underway on Monday, January 23.
The Illinois Department of Revenue is now accepting state tax returns.
“We encourage taxpayers to try My Tax Illinois, our free online program, we improved the site this year, and it now allows taxpayers to file with or without an account, pay electronically, or receive direct deposits and refund, and receive immediate confirmation that the returns were submitted,” Kownacki says.
Kownacki says if you file an error free return and choose director deposit, you should get your refund in about four weeks.
The I.R.S. has also taken steps to improve service, hiring more than 5,000 workers to help taxpayers who call, and added more in-person staff as well.
