FAIRFAX, Va. – The National Rifle Association said it would see the State of Illinois in court over the state’s new but on hold assault weapons ban, and it is.
The NRA, whom Governor JB Pritzker has called out when talking about the ban, says it’s filing a lawsuit challenging the ban.
They don’t say in a prepared release what locale the suit is being filed, but state director John Weber cites the Second Amendment and Pritzker’s willingness to sign the law, calling it a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
“Instead of arresting, prosecuting, and punishing the criminals who break the law, Gov. Pritzker is focusing his attention on those who haven’t broken any laws. The people of Illinois deserve better,” Weber said, in a news release.
It’s now at least the fourth such lawsuit being filed. One in Effingham County has already resulted in a temporary restraining order, even though that judge was concerned not about the second amendment, but instead about ignoring the usual legislative system in rushing the law to passage.
