PEORIA, Ill. – Juveniles were arrested in two separate incidents in Peoria within the past 24 hours.
Police say a 15-year-old was arrested Wednesday at around 5:40 P.M. in the area of East Ravine and North Peoria Avenues on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Handgun Under 21, and Obstructing/Resisting Police.
In that case, officers from the Peoria Police’s Street Crimes Unit made contact with two juveniles, who both ran from police. Both were apprehended after a brief foot chase.
During the foot pursuit, one of the juveniles discarded a weapon and recovered a handgun with an extended magazine.
The 15-year-old was taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center, while the other was released on scene.
The other case involved Peoria Police being called to the area of East Virginia and North Peoria Avenues at around 1:27 A.M. Thursday for a single vehicle crash that severed a utility pole from its base.
A witness told authorities that two males were seen running from the scene.
Officers located the unoccupied vehicle and found signs it was stolen.
Police then found a 14-year-old in the area of East Corrington and North Peoria Avenues who matched the description of one of the fleeing subjects.
The 14-year-old was arrested on a charge of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, then released into custody of his mother.
