WASHINGTON, Ill. – A pilot program that started six months ago for some residents of Washington is being continued for the time being.
The Greater Peoria Mass Transit District says “CityLift” paratransit service will continue in Washington.
It’s open to people aged 18 to 59 who may be disabled or have other mobility challenges, and was started to help serve an underserved area.
“We really have found that there is a lack of transportation for individuals in that age bracket that are in need of a paratransit-type service,” said Emily Watson, Director of Marketing, Greater Peoria Mass Transit District.
Watson says people who need the service still need to call and schedule a ride at least a day in advance, and still must have an accepted application on file, but may not have to pay as much.
“When we first started the project, there was a little bit of an issue, whether the person was going to a certain area, they may have had to pay more — $6 instead of $2,” said Watson. “Now, we’ve made it so that it is a $2 fare. Anyone who is using this service in Washington will pay $2 per ride.”
The service started last August. The updated service begins Wednesday.
