SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – It’s not going away — at least not yet. But, it is getting close.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says only five of the state’s 102 counties still are at elevated levels of COVID-19 transmission. That’s down from 20 last week. Like last week, all four counties are only at medium spread level.
All three of the Tri-Counties continue to be at low spread levels.
The state says 10,137 new cases were reported in the last week, down from 10,924 the week before, with 76 additional deaths.
State Public Health Director Doctor Sameer Vohra says it’s good that both the Governor and President are winding down the public health emergencies that have been in place almost three years, and it gives public health time to plan for the transition.
“However, we want the public to know that we will not let down our guard when it comes to protecting Illinoisans from COVID-19,” said Vohra, in a news release. “The virus is still circulating and causing hospitalizations and deaths in the state. This is why we continue to focus our efforts on promoting vaccinations, testing and timely treatment, especially when it comes to protecting our most vulnerable friends and neighbors.”
