WASHINGTON, D.C. (FOX NEWS) — AAA says Saturday morning marked a 7th straight drop for gas prices, with the national average at $3.48 a gallon.
Prices at the pump are trending lower modestly, but AAA says that should continue near term unless something shocks the market.
AAA Spokesman Andrew Gross tells FOX Business News that crude oil prices have dropped back into the mid $70 a barrel range, taking a lot of the upward pressure off retailers.
The national average for regular unleaded is only a few cents lower than a week ago, but it’s about $1.50 lower than the record price set last summer at $5.02 a gallon.
Illinois’ average price for regular unleaded gas is $3.63, but in the Peoria-Pekin metro area it’s $3.58.
AAA says gas prices may tick up again in mid-March as the driving season and spring break approach.
