ST. LOUIS – A longtime baseball player-turned baseball broadcaster has died.
Major League Baseball says Tim McCarver died Thursday at age 81 due to heart failure.
McCarver started his major league career with the Saint Louis Cardinals in 1959 — later broadcasting for them and several other baseball teams, as well as for three of the four major television networks.
He won two World Series titles with the Cardinals in the 1960’s, and retired in 1979 after playing with Philadelphia, helping them win a World Series title as well.
He is survived by his two daughters, and his wife of 58 years, Anne.
We are saddened to learn of the passing of Cardinals Hall of Fame catcher Tim McCarver.
A two-time World Series champion, McCarver caught 12 seasons in St. Louis over his 21-year career.
Our condolences go out to the McCarver family and his many baseball friends and colleagues. pic.twitter.com/5Yrh39PRt5
