PEKIN, Ill. – Tazewell County residents are speaking out about a county plan to take claim of, and possible demonlish, two downtown Pekin buildings.
They’re on the same block in downtown Pekin — the Arcade Building and the Tobin Building — and both are more than a century old.
“I think for downtown to be a destination spot, we can’t keep losing buildings to the county,” said Randy Price, local resident, to 25 News. “We need to maintain what little we have left. We like to see them stay.”
More than a dozen residents spoke out against the demolition at a special Tazewell County Board meeting Saturday morning.
County officials say after asbestos testing is done, the board could start accepting demolition bids.
