SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois State Police and local law enforcement will be out in force over the St. Patrick’s Day Weekend.
They will be looking for speeders, drunk and distracted drivers, and those not buckled up.
Don’t count on luck to get home safely this weekend, Illinois Department of Transportation Spokesperson Paul Wappel says, plan your ride ahead of time.
“If you’d going to be hosting a party, you can be held liable and prosecuted if somebody you serve ends up in an impaired-driving crash. Make sure your guests have their sober drivers designated in advance, or help them arrange a ride with other sober drivers,” Wappel says.
Wappel suggests hosts serve plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages as well.
Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies are participating in the beefed-up campaign to keep drunk drivers off the road this weekend.
