GALESBURG, Ill. – A rural Knox County woman no longer faces murder charges after a dead body was found inside a storage locker last October.
A Knox County judge Thursday dismissed the four most serious charges against Marcy Oglesby, 50: First-Degree Murder, Concealment of a Homicidal Death, Aggravated Battery by Administering a Toxic Substance, and Attempted Murder.
Sources say the judge agreed with defense claims that Oglesby’s rights to a speedy trial were violated — a ruling the Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office is expected to appeal.
Oglesby allegedly told investigators that a dead opossum was responsible for the smell coming from the locker in rural Maquon until a large box inside was opened up and the body discovered.
The body still hasn’t officially been identified, but has been identified in other media reports. A positive DNA match reportedly has not yet been made.
Oglesby still faces felony weapons and forgery charges, and a charge of Concealment of a Death. She’ll be back in court next month for a pretrial conference.
