EAST PEORIA, Ill. — A new Corvette has been given away to benefit a park now under construction in East Peoria.
With a 6.2 Liter V-8 engine, the car, a 2023 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Corvette Stingray Coupe, does zero to 60 mph in three seconds.
2,500 tickets were sold, at $100 each, bringing in $250,000 for the East Peoria Community Foundation’s Levee park effort near City Hall.
“And the idea was that we would not put a tax burden on the citizens of East Peoria. So, the park, while we have received two grants from the state of Illinois…we applied for them because some communities were getting them, so, why not ours? Um, but the rest is funded all by donations,” Sue Portscheller, President East Peoria Community Foundation, told 25 News.
The car was donated by Uftring Chevrolet. The winning ticket was #1329, bought by Kaye Johnson.
Phase One and Two of the park have already been funded and should be finished in May, Portscheller said.
Phase Three is where money raised from the Corvette giveaway will go in order to build a splash pad and other additions, to be complete in 2024.
