FAIRBURY, Ill. – A community in Livingston County is showing its support by the hundreds for two student athletes who died a week ago Sunday after a sledding accident in Colorado.
A candlelight vigil was held Saturday night for Prairie Central students Drew Fehr and Dylan Bazzell.
Faculty were among those participating and organizing the service.
“I coach cheer at the high school. So, I’ve seen these boys…I know these families,” said Hillary Blackwell, to 25 News. “I just thought that the community needed a way where we could be together, where we could show support, where we could remember. And, I think that’s what we did today.”
The mourners walked from a Fairbury church to a “Memory Wall” that was set up at the Prairie Central High School Football Field.
“It’s pretty hard,” said Camden Palmore, a student, to 25 News. “But, I think being together with everybody — friends, family — is making it better. To see all the support, it’s like the whole stands from football and basketball are here tonight to honor Drew and Dylan.”
Local businesses distributed blue lights to a number of local homes, with donations to the students’ memorials.
