PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria City Council took time at Tuesday night’s meeting to honor and remember a former at-large member.
Timothy J. Newlin passed away on Friday, March 24th at his home surrounded by family. Newlin was 70 years old.
Newlin was sworn-in as an at-large member in January 2017 to serve the remaining few months of Ryan Spain’s term, after Spain won election to the Illinois House.
“During that time, Tim served passionately and productively,” Mayor Rita Ali said at the start of Tuesday’s meeting.
Ali also says Newlin was a loving husband, dedicated father and husband, and a man of faith.
“He was also a great friend to many, yours truly included, and a very respected community volunteer,” Ali said.
Newlin worked as an attorney for 42 years, specializing in worker’s compensation. He was also a part of numerous organization in the Peoria-area.
Visitation for Newlin will take place Friday, March 31st from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philomena Catholic Church on Saturday, April 1st at 11:00 A.M.
