BRYANT, Ill. – The cleanup continues almost a week after an EF-3 tornado carved a path of destruction through parts of Fulton County.
Bryant — population 300 — was one of the hardest hit areas. The village president there says residents were out and ready to start cleaning up as soon as 20 minutes after the storm hit.
And among the groups helping to clean up: local Girl Scouts — after learning that Bryant Village Hall was heavily damaged.
“Our girls — we meet here in this building,” said Tiffany Kaufmann, leader, Girl Scout Troop 4815, to 25 News. “Honestly, if the election wasn’t on Tuesday, some of our girls would have been in this building when the tornado hit. This also teaches them different safety ways. If a disaster like this strikes, (they learn) what they can do to help clean up. They really like to help and give back. So, this is what we do all year round.”
Kaufmann says at least one of her scouts has been out every day since Wednesday.
One might Bryant is rising again this Easter Sunday.
Community members from Girl Scout troops to church organizations continue to come together to help clean up after the EF-3 tornado Tuesday devastated the community of three hundred.
Sunday, there might be a bit of a break for an Easter Celebration — with one church group providing breakfast, and another dinner.
And, that’s not all.
“We had a lady come in who’s going to bring Easter baskets — like, 40 Easter baskets — for the kids,” said Daniel Denham, Bryant Village President, to 25 News. “The downside is, it’s a holiday; but, the upside is everybody’s here. I think they’re just going to eat meal. They’re going to spend time with their families. They’re going to be thankful that they’re still here to do that.”
One local church group provided breakfast for the community. Another is providing Easter dinner, said Denham.
