PEORIA, Ill. — A week after Election Day, some races in Peoria County still aren’t final.
The Peoria County Election Commission says the 1st District School Board race and others in Illini Bluffs and Limestone-Walters are still too close to call.
Trustee races in Kingston Mines and Bellevue also have a narrow margin right now.
Election Commission Executive Director Elizabeth Gannon says this is expected in odd-year elections – especially with low voter turnout.
“I think in the Kingston Mines race, there were a total of 26-27 people that voted all together,” Gannon tells 25 News. “So when you have multiple people running for race, and not a lot of voter turnout, you do tend to get a lot of close race like this.”
Gannon says voter turn out was 16% in Peoria County – up from 15% in 2019.
So far, the commission has received over 630 mail-in ballots.
The last day for properly post-marked ballots to be counted is next Tuesday, April 18.
The election is certified a day later, on April 19.
